Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Explore the impressive fortress of Ollantaytambo, including large stone terraces, and then experience a local train ride over the Andes towards Machu Picchu. For an extra fee, you can choose to go to Machu Picchu by train and make a stop at KM 104 to get out and climb to the Sun Gate overlooking the Incan citadel. Machu Picchu was constructed in the 15th century during the peak of the Inca Empire, with a view of the Urubamba River. American Hiram Bingham made the "Lost City" known to the world in 1911, but locals had been aware of its location for a long time.

The original purpose of the structure is uncertain because the Incas did not leave any written documents. Imagine life in this place as it may have been while walking among the ancient stone walls. Stay tonight in the sole motel located on the premises, just a few steps away from the entrance.
